The big day has come and gone, and it was great thanks to all the great friends who showed up and give us well wishin’. To all: Thank you for helping make what was definitively the best day of my life thus far. Sniff.

A special thanks to Giahn Carlson, who interpreted my weird musical instructions, helped me with a last-minute wine-run, and just generally hung around to make sure I didn’t pass out or anything.

Check in on Tessa’s Flickr account later this week to see some of the Official Photos, but in the meantime, Aly did a fantastic job (and got some incredible macro shots of the location). I am supremely envious of her skillz.

To recap: Thanks again friends and favored ones, and we’ll see you in a week or so!

From Mele:
After months of hard work and effort, our big day came off a huge success! We could not have asked for a more perfect day, it was really wonderful. As Doug says, it could not have been done without the help of our great friends and family. Special mention goes to my Maid of Honor, Lindsay, who was so amazing and helped out with so much…from wardrobe consultation to transporting our photographer in her time of need! We’ve got a few hours before our flight leaves, so we’re dealing with all the pre-trip loose ends. Keep us in your thoughts when we are abroad!

Well everything is falling right in to place as per usual with this wedding thing. Today I picked up my dress from the seamstress, and it looks so much better than I expected. This weekend we got our marriage license, after a thorough security shakedown to enter the Loudon County Circuit Court. After taking care of that, we strolled around Leesburg proper and tucked into a really good and unassuming cafe for lunch, which we now must recommend to you when you are here. Baked brie on french bread, amazing fish and chips, it was deserted at that brunch hour on a workday but the food was amazing. The Georgetown Cafe at 19 S King St…give them a visit.

One note of business before the fun begins: we are thinking we will probably cancel the shuttle back to the Best Western hotel from Birkby House since everyone we know of has their own transportation. If you had factored the shuttle into your plans for that day, please let us know and we will keep it. You can email us directly at meleanddoug at gmail dot com. We figure no one will need it, but please correct us if you want it! Thanks, we appreciate your patience as we muddle through all the final details.

We are really excited about seeing everyone who is able to come and wish to thank all the well wishers who will not be able to attend! See you soon!

…Until “the big day,” and we are generally getting things done that should be done by this point. We hope to have the invites out by this coming weekend at the very latest, and that’s going to be a big relief. We still are hammering out the finer details such as table decorations and favors, flowers, and finalizing the ceremony itself. Music and other peripheral details (about which more will be written soon) are also humming along towards completion. Now and then I will think about the things left to be done and I have a moment of “oh no, what am I forgetting?” I am usually fairly good at being decisive, but when so many little things need doing, it can get a bit…not overwhelming, but just …a lot. So last week when I was hemming and hawing over whether I should try doing my own flowers myself, my brain kind of exploded a little with all the options. At this point I am more in favor of letting anyone but me take care of these things. Luckily I found a good local florist who will do that, so it’s one less thing for me to fret over. Right now I am very lucky to be able to focus less on planning (since we did so much already) and more on just enjoying the calm before the storm.

Ok, so the two of us began working out the details of our ceremony this weekend. Getting down to the nitty gritty! Wedding ceremony readings are by their very nature a bit mushy and we hope we’ll be able to craft a ceremony that is not overly lame or takes itself too seriously, yet is also sincere! No flower girl, no ring boy, no flower-bedecked-pet-turtle to escort the guests to their customized lily-pad-shaped chairs… we want it to be just…relaxed, or not so uptight or overly stressful.

Working on the guest list has been interesting for me, since I have so many people I have met only recently, and even more that I haven’t seen in years. I have done a poor job of amassing friends with all my recent moving, so I hope to have more than like 20 people for my side.
In any case, we are also moving in in 2 weeks and this is exciting and terrifying for both of us by turns. I’m sure we’ll have little spats over things like “oh, who’s toothbrush-holder are we going to keep now” because, well, we just will. We are going to see a good band that first night of the moving process, this will help us unwind a bit.
Oh, and the people who made my dress are gonna make me a new one because they botched my order, tra la la. Thanks, internet!
